Remember when I said I am passionate about world politics? Well… I am. I am enchanted by the United Nations in particular. . With its flaws, it’s successes, its disparity between every nation and the 5 superpowers. The fact that it has continued to work for the last 70 years baffles me. My obsession has dictated and established my hobby of Model United Nations. In January I will be heading off to my 10th conference as the “Head Chair of United Nations Environmental Program” (quite a mouthful no?). Although I am a chair this time round, I love being a delegate in mid of a heated debate. The issue being discussed at my upcoming conference caught my attention; “The Effectiveness of Carbon Trading”.
So for this post I thought, why not give you a quick taste of an average MUN. I will be taking up the role of the Delegate of China as I proceed with my opening speech to the council; (quick warning we are supposed to speak in 3rd person) Here is my quick take on role of carbon trading through the eyes of delegation of China.

"Honorable Chair and Respected Fellow Delegates,
The delegate of China sees the issue of assessing the effectiveness of carbon trading as one of utmost importance. Carbon trading is predicated by supply and demand forces, which establishes an economic value on it. The process in essence gives permission to corporations to emit a threshold of greenhouse gases. The delegate is aware that China emits 6.7 metric tons annually and is recognized to be one of the top carbon dioxide emitters. She would like the committee to be aware that China is putting its efforts in reducing the current emissions. Since 2011, the member state has been practicing a carbon-trading pilot in 7 major cities. In 2016, the nation wide emission trading scheme will be established and recognized as the world’s largest carbon trading. She recognizes the desperate need for there to be transparency in emission data to ensure effective trading. The delegate of China would like to end by asking the council to together flesh out the current problems associated with carbon trading such as auction of credits, the role of enforcement and evaluating the set price and cap. She looks forward to a fruitful debate ahead."
